The Fire Consortium Agility Test is the fire 00:07.520 --> 00:14.320 departments of Fargo, West Fargo, Moorhead, Williston, and Grand Forks. The Consortium Agility Test 00:14.320 --> 00:21.600 has 10 events. All candidates should watch this video prior to performing the test. All 00:21.600 --> 00:26.880 candidates will also be walked through the entire test prior to performing the test. 00:27.760 --> 00:36.160 Prior to the test all candidates must do a medical check and then after the test all candidates must 00:36.160 --> 00:41.680 do a post-medical check. The various techniques that can be used for each event will be demonstrated 00:41.680 --> 00:48.000 on your walkthrough of the Agility Test course. The mandatory equipment to be used during the 00:48.000 --> 00:57.920 Agility Test are gloves, a helmet, turnout coat, and an SCBA breathing apparatus. Candidates are 00:57.920 --> 01:04.000 not allowed to run between test events, however candidates may run safely within each event. 01:05.120 --> 01:14.080 The cutoff score time for candidates, these are new higher candidates, is 487 seconds 01:14.800 --> 01:24.800 or 8 minutes and 7 seconds. The cutoff time for incumbents is 452 seconds or 7 minutes and 32 01:24.800 --> 01:32.800 seconds. In event one, the dry hose deployment, candidate advances a pre-connect one and three 01:32.800 --> 01:39.520 quarter inch dry hose line for 110 feet. When performing this event candidates should place 01:39.520 --> 01:44.160 the nozzle over their shoulder and onto their chest. It is important for candidates to lean 01:44.160 --> 01:49.600 their weight forward and move at a rapid yet safe pace. Candidates are required to keep one hand on 01:49.600 --> 01:55.040 the hose nozzle at all times. If candidates do not keep one hand on the nozzle they will be given a 01:55.040 --> 02:00.240 warning. If the behavior continues the candidate will be required to start the event from the 02:00.240 --> 02:05.360 beginning. At the completion of the event candidates are required to place the hose 02:05.360 --> 02:10.560 nozzle in the designated area. If the hose nozzle is not placed within the designated area 02:10.560 --> 02:14.400 candidates will be asked to go back and set the nozzle in the appropriate place. 02:15.120 --> 02:20.960 After successful completion of the dry hose drag event candidates should walk to the next event. 02:22.160 --> 02:28.000 Event number two, the charged hose deployment. Candidates advances a pre-connect inch and 02:28.000 --> 02:34.320 three quarter charged hose line for 70 feet. When performing this event candidates should 02:34.320 --> 02:39.040 place the nozzle over their shoulder and onto their chest. It is important for candidates to 02:39.040 --> 02:45.360 lean their weight forward and move at a rapid yet safe pace. Candidates are required to keep one 02:45.360 --> 02:50.800 hand on the hose nozzle at all times. When deploying the hose around the obstacles 02:50.800 --> 02:57.040 candidates will be required to go over or past the obstacle and touch the designated area on 02:57.040 --> 03:03.520 the course before making the turn. Acceptable methods for advancing the hose through the crawl 03:03.520 --> 03:09.120 tunnel facing forward at all times turning backwards in the crawl tunnel at any point. 03:10.240 --> 03:14.800 Candidates may not use the frames of the crawl tunnel to brace themselves to aid in advancing 03:14.800 --> 03:20.560 the hose. At the completion of the event candidates are required to place the hose nozzle in the 03:20.560 --> 03:27.680 designated area. After placing the hose nozzle in the designated area candidates should walk to the 03:27.680 --> 03:36.240 next event. Event number three, the halyard raise. The candidate raises the fly section of a 24 foot 03:36.240 --> 03:42.400 aluminum extension ladder. Candidates are required to brace one foot against the base of the ladder 03:42.400 --> 03:48.000 also known as footing the ladder. If candidates do not properly foot the ladder they will be asked 03:48.000 --> 03:53.920 to lower the ladder and begin the event again. Candidates may use one of two methods for raising 03:53.920 --> 04:01.280 the extension ladder. A candidate may use a thumbs up, hand over hand raise, or a thumbs down 04:01.280 --> 04:07.040 hand over hand raise. Candidates are allowed to use a two-handed method to begin the raise 04:07.040 --> 04:12.800 but must continue the event with a hand over hand technique. Candidates are not allowed to 04:12.800 --> 04:18.160 jump up and grasp the halyard. Both feet must remain on the ground at all times. 04:18.160 --> 04:24.400 Candidates are not allowed to crouch down and use their lower body to perform the raise. 04:25.360 --> 04:30.080 If the rope slips through the candidate's hands during the halyard raise the candidate must 04:30.080 --> 04:34.880 restart the event from the beginning. If the rope slips through the candidate's hands a second time 04:34.880 --> 04:40.880 during the halyard raise the candidate is disqualified from the test. After successful 04:40.880 --> 04:47.920 completion of the halyard raise candidates should walk to the next event. Event number four, the 04:47.920 --> 04:54.720 roof walk. The candidate ascends and descends a 10-foot distance walking slash crawling on the 04:54.720 --> 05:02.480 rungs of a 12-foot straight ladder while carrying a simulated 23-pound chainsaw. Candidates are 05:02.480 --> 05:08.000 required to touch every rung on the way up the ladder with at least one foot including the rung 05:08.000 --> 05:14.160 designated with paint or tape at the 10-foot mark. If candidates skip rungs on the way up the ladder 05:14.160 --> 05:19.760 they will be required to start the event from the beginning. Candidates are not required to touch 05:19.760 --> 05:24.480 every rung on the way down the ladder. Candidates should proceed down the ladder in a manner that 05:24.480 --> 05:29.680 is comfortable and safe. Candidates are not allowed to turn around and walk down the ladder. 05:30.320 --> 05:34.960 If candidates fail to back down the ladder they will be required to start the event from the 05:34.960 --> 05:40.320 point at which they turned forward. Candidates are allowed to slide the chainsaw along the 05:40.320 --> 05:45.520 roof when backing down the ladder. Candidates may also carry the chainsaw when backing down the 05:45.520 --> 05:51.760 ladder. The chainsaw must be returned to the designated area after the completion of the event. 05:51.760 --> 05:56.720 If candidates do not return the chainsaw to the designated area they will be asked to put it in 05:56.720 --> 06:02.560 the appropriate place before going to the next event. After successful completion of the roof walk 06:02.560 --> 06:10.160 candidates should proceed to the next event. Event number five the attic crawl. The candidate 06:10.160 --> 06:15.920 crawls a distance of 20 feet across a simulated attic area while carrying a simulated flashlight 06:15.920 --> 06:21.360 in his or her hands. Candidates are required to pick up the simulated flashlight and proceed 06:21.360 --> 06:26.800 across the attic prop staying below the barriers. Candidates may either crawl on their hands and 06:26.880 --> 06:32.880 knees across the attic prop or crab walk on their hands and feet as long as the candidates stay 06:32.880 --> 06:38.560 below the barriers. If a candidate knocks over a barrier the proctor will reset the barrier 06:38.560 --> 06:44.240 and the candidate will start the event from the beginning. Candidates may not drop their hands or 06:44.240 --> 06:49.760 feet through the joists touching the ground below the attic prop. If candidates touch the ground they 06:49.760 --> 06:54.560 will be required to start the event from the beginning. Candidates must place the simulated 06:54.560 --> 07:00.720 flashlight in the original designated box to signify the completion of the event. If candidates 07:00.720 --> 07:04.720 do not return the flashlight to the designated area they will be asked to return it to the 07:04.720 --> 07:10.720 appropriate place before going to the next event. After successful completion of the attic crawl 07:10.720 --> 07:18.400 candidates should walk to the next event. Event number six roof ventilation. The candidate stands 07:18.480 --> 07:23.120 on a pitched rooftop and strikes the roof 30 times with an eight pound sledgehammer. 07:24.080 --> 07:30.560 For each strike the candidate is required to one raise the hammer above his or her helmet 07:30.560 --> 07:37.760 and two maintain control of the sledgehammer at all times. Candidates will pick up the sledgehammer 07:37.760 --> 07:43.760 from the designated area. Candidates can either place one foot on the footrest provided or stand 07:43.760 --> 07:50.320 closer to the strike area if necessary. For each strike the candidates are required to raise the 07:50.320 --> 07:55.040 sledgehammer above their helmet and strike the roof while maintaining control of the sledgehammer. 07:55.840 --> 07:59.840 The number of strikes will be counted out loud by the proctor during the event. 08:00.560 --> 08:06.400 Improper strikes will not be counted. An improper strike is one that is not raised above the helmet 08:06.400 --> 08:11.840 or one in which control of the sledgehammer is not maintained at all times. If the sledgehammer 08:11.840 --> 08:16.480 is brought above the helmet and then simply allowed to fall back down to the prop the 08:16.480 --> 08:21.760 candidate is not maintaining control of the sledgehammer. After completing the event the 08:21.760 --> 08:26.800 sledgehammer should be placed in the designated area. If candidates do not place the sledgehammer 08:26.800 --> 08:31.440 in the designated area they will be asked to return it to the appropriate place before going 08:31.440 --> 08:37.520 to the next event. After successful completion of the roof ventilation candidates should walk 08:37.520 --> 08:46.560 to the next event. Event number seven victim removal. The candidate drags a 170 pound dummy 08:46.560 --> 08:52.640 for 18 feet. The dummy will have straps or a harness. The candidate drags the dummy 08:53.920 --> 08:59.200 nine feet in one direction goes around a cone and drags the dummy an additional nine feet back to 08:59.200 --> 09:05.120 the starting point. There are several methods that may be used during this event. The dummy 09:05.120 --> 09:11.040 drag under arms. The candidates may grab the dummy underneath the arms lift the torso of the 09:11.040 --> 09:17.440 dummy off the ground and drag the dummy around the course. They can use the dummy drag over arms. 09:17.440 --> 09:22.800 Candidate may grab that grab the dummy over the arms lift the torso of the dummy off of the ground 09:22.800 --> 09:28.720 and drag the dummy around the course. The candidate may use the dummy drag one or two arms 09:29.600 --> 09:33.520 candidate may grab the dummy by one or two arms and drag the dummy around the course. 09:35.120 --> 09:41.680 Candidates may also carry the dummy, although this method is the most time-consuming and strenuous. 09:42.880 --> 09:48.240 Straps or webbing may be used during the dummy drag. Candidates may not drag the dummy by the 09:48.240 --> 09:54.240 head, feet, or clothes. Regardless of the method used, candidates must move the dummy completely 09:54.240 --> 10:00.160 around the cones and place the dummy back in the starting position. If candidates fail to carry or 10:00.160 --> 10:06.240 drag the dummy completely around a cone, they will be asked to go back and properly maneuver 10:06.240 --> 10:11.840 the dummy around the cone. If candidates fail to place the dummy back in the starting position, 10:11.840 --> 10:16.640 they will be asked to go back and put the dummy in the proper place before proceeding to the next 10:16.640 --> 10:23.360 event. After successful completion of the victim removal, candidates should walk to the next event. 10:23.520 --> 10:31.840 Event number eight, ladder removal carry. Candidate removes a 14-foot aluminum straight 10:31.840 --> 10:38.160 ladder from the mounted hooks, carries the ladder 54 feet around a diamond-shaped course, 10:38.160 --> 10:45.520 and replaces the ladder to mounted hooks. There is a ladder drop box that extends from four feet 10:45.520 --> 10:51.040 on either side of the ladder in front of it. The candidates can ground the ladder within the 10:51.040 --> 10:58.240 designated four-foot area drop box immediately after removing it and or immediately before 10:58.240 --> 11:03.520 replacing it. The ladder will not be allowed to touch the ground while it is being carried outside 11:03.520 --> 11:10.800 of the straight ladder drop box. There are three methods that may be used when completing this 11:10.800 --> 11:18.960 event. The high shoulder carry, the low shoulder carry, or the suitcase carry. During the ladder 11:18.960 --> 11:23.920 carry, if in the proctor's opinion the candidate loses control of the ladder while carrying it 11:23.920 --> 11:28.960 around the designated area, the proctor may intervene. The proctor will take the ladder 11:28.960 --> 11:33.760 from the candidate, place it on the ground at the place where the candidate lost control. 11:34.400 --> 11:40.000 The candidate can then pick the ladder up and continue. When replacing the ladder, both ends 11:40.000 --> 11:44.800 of the ladder must be in control and off of the ground. If one end of the ladder hits the 11:44.800 --> 11:49.200 ground during replacement, the proctor will assist the candidate in grounding the ladder 11:49.760 --> 11:55.040 and the candidate will then be required to replace it properly. The ladder must be replaced on the 11:55.040 --> 12:00.160 hooks in the original position. There will be rungs painted or taped on the ladder to assist 12:00.160 --> 12:05.600 candidates in this process. If the ladder is not replaced in the original position, 12:05.600 --> 12:10.000 candidates will be required to remove the ladder and place it in the proper position. 12:10.000 --> 12:15.760 Candidates are not allowed to lean or brace the ladder against the wall during replacement. 12:16.400 --> 12:20.800 If a candidate leans the ladder against the wall, they will be required to remove the ladder and 12:20.800 --> 12:27.440 replace it properly. While performing this event, candidates are allowed two penalties. A penalty 12:27.440 --> 12:34.160 includes any of the following. When candidates drop the ladder, when candidates lose control 12:34.160 --> 12:39.520 of the ladder and the proctor assists in grounding, when candidates voluntarily ground the ladder to 12:39.520 --> 12:45.760 gain stability and when the ladder falls over the neck of the candidate with the candidate's 12:45.760 --> 12:52.160 neck between ladder rungs. In this case, the proctor will assist with the removal and grounding 12:52.160 --> 12:59.520 the ladder. If a third penalty occurs, candidates will be disqualified. After successful completion 12:59.520 --> 13:05.920 of the ladder removal carry, candidates should walk to the next event. Event number nine, 13:05.920 --> 13:12.880 crawling search. Candid crawls on the ground floor along the wall for a distance of 60 feet. 13:13.840 --> 13:19.440 Candid stands up and walks to the next event after completion. During the crawling search, 13:19.440 --> 13:24.160 candidates are required to crawl on their hands and knees around the designated area on the ground 13:24.160 --> 13:32.160 floor. Candidates may also crab walk along the floor. After completing the crawl, the candidate 13:32.160 --> 13:39.680 must stand up and walk to the next event. Event number 10, stair climb with hose. The candidate 13:39.680 --> 13:46.960 climbs the stairs carrying a high rise pack composed of 100 feet of inch and three-quarter hose. 13:47.760 --> 13:54.800 They will climb up the stairs, turn around, come back down the stairs, and finish when they cross 13:54.800 --> 14:01.680 the line. This is the last event. Candidates may skip steps on the way up the stairs. Candidates 14:01.680 --> 14:07.040 must touch every step on the way down the stairs. There are two ways in which the hose bundle may be 14:07.040 --> 14:12.000 carried. Candidates may put the hose bundle over their left or right shoulder and proceed up the 14:12.000 --> 14:18.320 stairs, or candidates may also carry the hose bundle in their arms, although this method is not the 14:18.320 --> 14:24.000 most efficient. Candidates are allowed to skip steps on the way up. Candidates are not allowed 14:24.000 --> 14:30.800 to skip steps on the way down the stairs. Every step must be touched on the way down. If candidates 14:30.800 --> 14:36.000 fail to touch a step with their foot, they will be required to go back and touch that step before 14:36.000 --> 14:42.320 proceeding down the stairs. Once the candidate has ascended and descended the staircase, the candidate 14:42.320 --> 14:47.920 crosses the finish line carrying the hose bundle. The candidate's time will then be stopped when 14:47.920 --> 14:54.640 they cross the finish line. Once the candidate completes the test, they may then remove their 14:54.640 --> 15:02.400 helmet, SCBA tank, turn out coat, and gloves. The candidate should then proceed to get their 15:02.400 --> 15:06.480 post-test medical check completed.
